The daylilies of Vullierens

The elegance of July

Elegance Among the iconic flowers of Château de Vullierens, daylilies occupy a special place. These stunning flowers, also known as “belles d’un jour” (beauties of a day), bloom each morning, their flowers unique and ephemeral but renewed day after day throughout July across a bed covering more than 1,000 square meters.
The daylilies of Vullierens include nearly 200 varieties grown on site. One of the most complete collections in Europe. They offer flamboyant colors and varied shapes: from deep red to bright orange, through softer pastel tones and even two-tone varieties.

Lively and poetic

Contrary to their delicate appearance, daylilies are sturdy, easy-to-care-for perennials that are resistant to disease and drought. They are nicknamed “day lilies” because each flower lasts only one day, replaced the next day by a new one, ensuring continuous flowering for several weeks. Derived from the Greek words “hemero” (day) and “kallos” (beauty), they embody the grace of perpetual renewal.
Daylilies reach their peak flowering after two to three years and are easily propagated by division in the fall.
Fun fact: their flowers are edible and add an original touch to cooking!
