Medieval Walk
Welcome to the 360° tour of the Château! Follow in the footsteps of Vullierens’ history, between medieval ruins from the 13th century, French architecture from the 17th century, and contemporary art.
Begin your tour by zigzagging between the geometric—and kinetic—rose beds of Dorianne’s Garden. Continue your stroll on the terraces built on the walls of the old fortified castle. Take a break to admire the impressive architecture of the building and the magnificent view of the old orchard, vineyards, and lake.
A few meters and a 90° turn around the tower later, admire the remains of the old building and step back 700 years as you walk along the ancient ramparts of the medieval castle built in 1308 by Pierre Duin. Following the path, you will find a second tower that is also part of the imposing medieval fortress. The walk ends along the water garden in the old moat.
This walk is not accessible to people with reduced mobility or in wheelchairs.
Roses Walk
In our gardens, roses also number in the thousands. The wall of the Château’s former vegetable garden alone has more than 400 rose bushes.
The Rose Walk is therefore a must-see! It gives pride of place to this flower, whose overlapping petals are instantly recognizable. The walk takes you from colorful names to mysterious ones, from Gertrude Jekyll to Super Faire, via Generous Gardner.
And from garden to garden; from Dorianne to Doreen, to the Secret Garden. We can safely say that our collection of over 2,000 flowering rose bushes and our Rose Walk are a must-see attraction!
Tree Walk
The Château gardens are home to exceptional, centuries-old trees. The “Tree Walk” takes you on a journey of discovery to see these ancient giants, some of which tower over the estate at heights of more than 40 meters.
There are around fifteen species along the route. The garden map will help you locate these giants, and information about their characteristics is provided on plaques along the walk. Among the most impressive is the tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera), planted in 1720 and reputed to be one of the oldest in Europe. And the giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron gigantium), the second largest tree in the park, both listed as remarkable trees by the canton of Vaud.
Recent scientific studies demonstrate the importance of the deep connection between humans and forests. Walking under the trees provides a unique feeling of calm and vitality, the benefits of which can last up to seven hours after the walk. Walking in the woods calms the mind, reduces stress, and promotes a natural boost of energy. To prolong this sensory experience, don’t hesitate to approach the trees, place your hands on their bark, or even hug them to feel their strength and serenity.
Wine variety Walk
A stroll through the vineyards with views of Lake Geneva and the mountains awaits you. Discover the grape varieties that make up our 7-hectare biodynamic wine estate. An educational walk through vineyards and contemporary sculptures. Chasselas, Pinot Noir, Gamaret, Garanoir, and Galotta will hold no more secrets for you. And don’t forget to visit the historic cellars of the Château and enjoy a free tasting of our six wines at the boutique on your way out. Cheers!
Torres Walk
At the end of the bridle path, turn right and head up to the Torres Walk on the heights of the estate. This 300-meter path reveals 20 unique sculptures from Manuel Torres’ personal collection. It invites visitors to explore a little-known corner of the gardens and pays tribute to the artist. The first major sculptor to enter Château de Vullierens, Manuel Torres made a discreet appearance in 1998 with a few pieces, then in 2013 with 14 works marking his 75th birthday and 40 years of creation. He passed away in 2018, leaving a lasting mark on the estate, which is now celebrated through this trail. The walk ends in the Enchanted Forest.
