Carles
Valverde

Carles Valverde, born in 1965 in Switzerland, is primarily a sculptor, but he approaches art like a painter, seeking to combine the diversity of individual elements with the unity of the whole. Whether it's monumental metal sculptures, paintings, drawings, or installations, each of his works reflects a constant search for harmony.

Carles Valverde studied sculpture at the Escola Llotja in Barcelona, where he graduated in 1987. After living and working for 15 years in Switzerland (1990-2005), he then settled in Son Servera, Mallorca, where he remained for more than eight years before returning to Switzerland in 2013.

Since 1986, Valverde has presented numerous solo exhibitions in private galleries, primarily in Spain, Switzerland, and Germany. In 2016, the Canton of Vaud dedicated an exhibition to him at Espace Arlaud, a four-story museum in the heart of Lausanne entirely devoted to his work. At the same time, he regularly participates in group exhibitions and international art fairs, such as ARCO, Art Cologne, Art Frankfurt, Art Paris, and Art Zurich. Many of his works are included in prestigious public collections, notably those of Nestlé, UBS, Hoffmann-La Roche, Crédit Suisse, the Lausanne Municipal Fund for Visual Arts, the Geneva Cantonal Fund for Decoration and Visual Arts, the Musée Jenisch (Vevey, Switzerland), the city hall of Terrassa, his hometown, and Ars Fundum (Madrid). His monumental works are present in Lausanne, Terrassa (including the monument to Lluis Companys), Poland, and Mallorca, testifying to his influence and mastery in the public space. Since 2018, Carles Valverde has been exhibiting his works in the gardens of the Château de Vullierens, a unique location in Switzerland housing more than 90 monumental contemporary sculptures. His participation in this prestigious collection demonstrates the recognition of his work, and two of his sculptures now adorn these gardens.

Carles Valverde’s inspirations are primarily manifested in the minimalist and rectilinear forms that characterize his artistic universe. A “builder of space,” he remains faithful to a sober and rigorous style, while freely exploring materials and techniques. His works alternate between static sculptures and animated, playful installations, which extend the artistic experience in space and time.
